Christmas is nearly here and for many of us, that means tasty food, barbeques and dinners. But that also means more plaque and more bacteria. Even our staff at Ashwood Dental have a hard time controlling ourselves, knowing full well the negative consequences to our teeth.
5 Tips on How to Prevent Cavities during Holiday Season
Here are 5 tips on how to prevent cavities, maintain dental hygiene and avoid dental emergencies this holiday season:
Munch on healthy lite snacks
There will be an array of tasty food to feast on but they’re not always the best for us or our teeth. Lite snacks such as nuts and fruit have the nutrients to fight the bacteria inside of your mouth.
Rinse your mouth after every meal.
In South Korea, it is normal for all people of society to brush their teeth multiple times a day- even after important work meetings. We’re not saying you should go that extreme (you’re more than welcome to, however), but just a 30-second rinse after each meal so the plaque doesn’t build up too much.
Brush and Floss your teeth
Now, you might be rolling your eyes. You’ve heard this cliche for as long as you can remember to the point of annoyance. But it’s a cliche for a reason. Remembering to floss and brush your teeth is the best thing you can do to maintain your oral health and save yourself from future costs.
Rinse for 1 minute with an anti-cavity mouthwash.
Brushing and flossing is a must but it’s not perfect. An anti-cavity mouthwash can kill the bacteria that gets missed. Our Ashburton dentists recommend before bedtime because you won’t be able to drink or eat anything for 30 minutes.
Come in for a dental check-up and clean with Dentists in Ashburton
If you avoid all the tips above we hope you at least follow this. Prevent painful dental issues such as gum disease and tooth decay. Our dentist in Ashburton will wash away the plaque, tartar and all the other harmful bacteria that’s been living inside of you; as well providing a comprehensive check-up.
Maintain your dental hygiene for holidays and enjoy a cavity-free Christmas by following these steps. Most importantly we hope your Christmas is filled with love and joy. Merry Christmas from all of us at Ashwood Dental!
